Camping near Fort Boyard
Discover Fort Boyard
Built in 1857, this emblematic fortification is almost two hundred years old and is listed as a historical monument. Its purpose was to defend the Charente estuary and in particular the Rochefort arsenal, which was located there.
If the interior of the fort is closed to the public, its unusual architecture is well worth a visit.
Take the time to cruise off the island of Oleron, get as close as possible to the fort and explore the coastline of the Charente-Maritime.
Cruises to Fort Boyard
Cruises are offered every day from Fouras, La Rochelle, Ile de Ré or Oleron.
Embark on excursions that last between 2 and 4 hours and that will take you to the Charente estuary via the unavoidable island of Aix, the only one that really deserves its name. Unlike its neighbors in Oleron and Ré, it is not connected to the land by road, but only by sea!
It costs about ten euros per adult to get on board, and a little less for children. Spring and summer, many companies offer excursions several times a day.
Visit the official website of the Inter-island cruises to know the next departures.
Whether you want to discover this extraordinary historical monument or see Father Fouras in his skylight, you are bound to have a great day on the water.
